A Star was Born in Groove
He was born in a rural corner of Minnesota. His mother’s wide-ranging record collection – including Johnny Cash, Roger Miller, and the Kingston Trio – exposed him to many musical styles, including Dixieland, Caribbean, and calypso. It ignited a deep passion in Jeff for guitar icons like Eric Clapton, Jerry Reed, and Jimi Hendrix, along with the sounds of The Byrds, Moody Blues, and Allman Brothers. He even spent time in the Twin Cities working with greats like Dizzy Gillespie, Thad Jones, and sidemen from Bob Dylan and Prince – experiences that further rooted his understanding of “the groove.”
